Happy Summer Solstice

Happy Summer Solstice

Long live the sun and a summer cocktail ...

Today is the Summer Solstice!

Or, as the sun itself would probably say:

"Look at me shining, baby!" 😎

Today the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. It is the longest day and the shortest night of the year. From now on, the days will slowly start getting a tiny bit shorter again… but nobody is losing sleep over that today. Except, perhaps, the mosquitoes.

For thousands of years, people have looked upon this day with wonder. Long before calendars, smartphones and weather apps existed, our ancestors regarded the Summer Solstice as something truly special. In many cultures, Midsummer was celebrated as a festival of abundance, fertility and gratitude for the life-giving power of the sun.

The ancient Celtic and Germanic peoples lit great bonfires to honor the sun. They believed the flames brought protection, good fortune and blessings. People sang, danced and celebrated deep into the short night. Flowers adorned homes, and herbs were gathered because it was believed that they possessed their greatest healing power around Midsummer.

Even today, Midsummer is celebrated with great joy in Scandinavia, with flower crowns, music and tables filled with delicious food. And at places like Stonehenge, people still gather to welcome the sunrise, just as others did thousands of years ago.

Many ancient cultures saw this time as a kind of gateway between worlds. Not because a secret door literally opened, but because nature stood at the height of its power, and people felt more connected to the seasons, to one another, and to life itself.

And let's be honest… there is something magical about a sunset that simply refuses to end. About those warm evenings when nobody seems to be in a hurry. As if the day itself is softly whispering:

"Stay a little longer. Breathe. Live."

So raise your glass, make a wish by candlelight or around a bonfire, walk barefoot through the grass, or dance beneath an imaginary sky full of sunflowers.

Because perhaps Midsummer isn't really about ancient rituals or forgotten legends.

Maybe it's simply about pausing for a moment.

About the light.
About the warmth.
About the people you love.
And about realizing that moments don't have to be grand to be beautiful.

It is MIDSUMMER.

The world is shining… and so are you. 🌻✨

And if you happen to stay on the terrace a little longer than planned tonight…

well, let's just call that an ancient tradition…

with a modern twist. ☀️🍷😉
